Organizations Using Social Media Tools

The two organizations using social media that I researched are Hewlett Packard (HP) and The Milwaukee Police Department.(MPD).  HP is a computer company, founded on January 1, 1939.  The MPD, founded on October 4, 1855, enforces the law all over the city of Milwaukee.

The main reason HP uses these services is to help promote their products.  As one can see on their twitter page, HP’s newest laptop is the “The Next Generation, HP Pavillion X360,”

and from their facebook page, “the all-in-one desktop, HP Z1 G2 Workstation.”

The MPD uses their social media sites to either prevent crime or to help track down criminals. For example, on March 27, “Robbery suspect strikes at bank near 80th and Capitol. Check out the video and help MPD find him.” This tweet also shows a video.

HP uses Twitter as a platform for promoting their products; for example, they have pictures of people around the country promoting HP products or tweeting with a picture about HP. They use Facebook as a discussion board. They also have a support page link on the top of their website. For the MPD, both Twitter and Facebook are used to help prevent crime and to show pictures of prevention almost as if it were currently happening.
